This past fall, I had my first Bahn Mi sandwich for lunch at my favorite Pho restaurant near my house. It’s pretty much a perfect sandwich. It has rich, savory meat topped with fresh, and pickled crunchy vegetables stuffed into a baguette with mayo and cilantro. This sandwich is up there in taste value with my favorite Philly Cheesesteak! I’m drooling just thinking about it.
Recently, JSL Foods, makers of Twin Dragon brand of egg roll and won ton wrappers, asked me to develop a new and original recipe incorporating their products. This was a no brainer for me as I have been using and enjoying their high-quality products for years. I decided that a version of Bahn Mi in a baked won ton cup would be something delicious to come up with.
How do you pack Bahn Mi fillings inside a tiny won ton cup?
Well, easy I suppose. Instead of the slow-roasted pork shoulder, I substituted ground pork. If you brown it, it takes on the deeper flavor of slow-roasted pork. When you add the umami flavors of the sauce it really takes the pork to another level without a lot of effort. Voila! Slow roasted pork flavor without spending the day in the kitchen.
The trick to the salad, slice the veggies as thin as possible. This makes it easier to fit inside the won ton as well.
One last thing, you can easily use the full-size egg roll wrappers if you prefer a larger “bowl” for serving. Follow the instructions for baking the won ton skins in the recipe card below. Just add more ingredients to make it more of a full-size meal.
Where to Buy Twin Dragon products?
You can purchase Twin Dragon Wrappers at Walmart, Albertsons, Shaw’s, Von’s, Stater Bros, Fred Meyer, QFC, Safeway, Associated Stores, Giant Stores, Shop N Shop, Winco, and Price Chopper! If your local grocery doesn’t sell this fine line of products, ask your store manager to carry them. Most store managers, in my past experience, are more than happy to accommodate customer requests when it comes to new products.
Enjoy this recipe. It tastes great and is terrific for just about any meal or get together!
