So who doesn’t like butter? It’s kinda up there in everyone loves bacon department. Everything is better with butter. I always laugh when they say “don’t eat butter, processed butter products are so much better for you, especially the one’s that lower your cholesterol”. In my book, anything that is processed is bad for you in so many ways. How much butter do you really eat in one sitting anyhow? Really, not enough to be a problem. Go ahead and enjoy a little butter! So, for another addition to my “don’t buy it, make it” section you will hopefully never buy butter again! It’s so easy, you may even giggle.
Making homemade butter is so simple that it doesn’t even require a recipe. Two ingredients, cheese cloth and a food processor.
1 pint of heavy whipping cream
pinch of salt (optional)
Food processor
Cheese cloth
Put the heavy whipping cream and a pinch of salt in the food processor and turn it on high. Let it run for 5-6 minutes. That’s it. It’s kinda cool to watch it go through all the stages to the ultimate butter. Liquid, whipped cream and then butter. The picture below is what it looks like when the butter is complete. Once it reaches this point, gather a large bowl and a strainer. Line the strainer with cheese cloth and drain off the butter milk. Squeeze out any additional butter milk. Transfer to a container that is suitable for the refrigerator. That’s it! What’s even better, you have fresh butter milk. Why not make some butter milk biscuits to go along with the beautiful butter?
I haven’t bought fake butter in years. You can do anything that you normally do with butter. You can even freeze it. For this post, I used 1 1/2 pints of whipping cream, which yielded a little less than two cups of butter milk and about a cup of butter! Two recipes for the price of one! Pretty awesome… I hope that I have convinced you that making homemade butter is a no brainer and like 1000 times better tasting than store bought!
